About Joey:

Being born and raised in the Augusta, Georgia area, my family was involved in church life.  I learned to coast along “under the radar” being heavily involved with church activities.  God was after my heart though I resisted.  This running from the Lord culminated the summer before I began college where He powerfully spoke into my heart.  I heard someone give a talk who asked the question, “If you died tonight, how many people would be in heaven because of your influence?”  Having heard the question phrased differently many times before, I was floored by my response.  “Most people would be in hell because of my influence!”  I had run from the Lord long enough.  I walked out on the beach.  I asked the Lord to forgive me of my sins.  I also told him that I would do whatever He wanted me to do, go whereever He wanted me to go.   From that point on, my life has been a process of seeing more and more who I am in Christ using whatever influence He gives me to introduce people to Him.

Privileged to be married to Marla since 1995.  4 beautiful children:  Grace, Aaron, Hannah, and Luke

What’s your favorite Bible verse (at least right now)?
“I do not consider my my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God.”  Acts 20:24 (NASB)

Ministry Experiences and Passions:
Before bringing my family and I to Clayton Baptist in June 2007, God called us to minister to college students, middle and high school students, leading small group ministries, worship leadership in a choir and bands, and pastoring.  He has taken me  to minister in Canada, Mexico, Slovakia, Zimbabwe, and soon to Ukraine.  My passion and hobby is the Bible.  I believe it teaches that everything is about the glory of God (Romans 11:36).  I believe our main task as believers is making disciples (Matthew 28:19-20).  We are called to take the gospel to the nations.  I believe Christ’s return is imminent (Matthew 24) and we are called to encourage each other and warn those who don’t know Him with this fact.
